Broad Street Ward Video

Welcome to Broad Street Ward, one of the 25 Wards which make up the City of London, otherwise known as the ‘Square Mile’.

Broad Street ward boundaries are Liverpool Street in the north, Throgmorton Street in the south, Copthall Avenue in the west and Old Broad Street in the east.  The heart of the ward is Austin Friars.

The Carpenters, Drapers and Furniture Makers livery halls are situated in the ward.  The International Bankers have an office within the Furniture Makers’ Hall.

The area has strong historic Dutch connections, as well as strong Church of England connections, and is the principal site for the events surrounding Thomas Cromwell in Hilary Mantel’s best-selling historical novels.

Broad Street Ward is represented on the Court of Common Council, the decision making body for the City of London Corporation, by Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli, Deputy John Bennett, and Common Councilmen John Scott and Christopher Hayward.  Together they ensure responsible governance of the City and its institutions to provide safe streets, modern infrastructure, and a vibrant economy with a community spirit.

Our team has overseen a number of achievements in the Ward, notably the public space redevelopment of Austin Friars, new developments at Drapers Gardens and Angel Court, a reduction in noise and shredder vans.

The team chair or sit on numerous committees and charities, including planning & transportation, education, arts, markets, and finance, as well as liaise with central government.

Your civic team is here to serve you, the workers, residents, and voters of Broad Street Ward.  So do contact us if you have any questions or suggestions on how the City of London can help you succeed in the Square Mile.  We are here to serve you.
