MINUTES OF THE WARDMOTE
FOLLOWING THE ADJOURNMENT ON WEDNESDAY 23RD MARCH
HELD AT FURNITURE MAKERS’ HALL ON THURSDAY 24TH MARCH 2022

1. Upon completion of the Count the Honorary Ward Clerk asked the Ward Beadle to open the
adjourned Wardmote by Proclamation.
2. The Alderman as Returning Officer then declared the result of the Poll to be:
Bakth, Shahnan ………………………………. 127 votes
Corrin, Elizabeth Susan ………………. 65 votes
Hayward, Christopher Michael …………. 148 votes
Manchester, Anthony Geoffrey ………… 113 votes
Scott, John George Stewart ………………. 51 votes
3. The Alderman therefore declared that Mr Bakth, Mr Hayward and Mr Manchester had been
elected as Members of Common Council for the Ward of Broad Street for the ensuing term.
4. The successful candidates were then asked if they would like to address the meeting. Mr
Hayward first praised Mr Scott’s record and service as a Common Councillor before he thanked
all involved in the election and Mr Bakth thanked everyone as well. Mr Manchester was not
present owing to his recovery from coronavirus.
5. The unsuccessful candidates were then asked if they would like to address the meeting. Ms
Corrin said that it was an interesting process including the activity of voting for oneself, and Mr
Scott said that he was now “liberated” from his duties as a Common Councillor.
6. Those elected then made and subscribed their Declarations of Office and Corporation of
London Code of Conduct for Members.
7. The Alderman then announced the appointment of his Deputy as Mr Christopher Hayward for
the ensuing year.
8. The Alderman, together with two voters as witnesses, signed the Return to Precept.
9. Mr Bakth proposed a resolution that a public notice be posted of the Poll result on the Ward
Notice Board. This was seconded by Mrs Elizabeth Mainelli and passed unanimously.
10. Next Mr Hayward proposed a vote of thanks to the Alderman for presiding at the Wardmote.
This was seconded by Ms Corrin and passed unanimously.
11. Mr Scott then proposed a vote of thanks to the Master and Worshipful Company of Furniture
Makers for the use of their Hall. This was seconded by Mr Hayward and passed unanimously.
12. Finally the Alderman asked the Ward Beadle to close the Wardmote in the usual manner.
