As a reminder, the review of the pedestrian zones originated from a Court of Common Council Motion to review all Traffic Orders in the City, and in October 2024, the Streets and Walkways Sub-Committee agreed to change the operational times of six pedestrian zones. In our Ward, the timing changes for Austin Friars were from 11am to 4pm Monday to Friday, to 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday, subject to further consultation with local businesses and occupiers. This further consultation was completed earlier this year, and the outcome of this indicated that extending the hours in the morning to 7am would create difficulties for some occupiers, whilst the extension of the evening hours indicated minimal impact. To minimise the impact whilst balancing this against the needs of people using these streets, the proposals have therefore been amended to 8am – 9pm Monday to Friday. This change to the morning start time reduces the impact on morning servicing and delivery activities by local occupiers.
