Pepys Day 2025: London’s Most Delightfully Diary-Obsessed Celebration Returns

[An edited version of this article appeared as “Pepys Day: Raise A Toast To London’s Best Diarist” in City AM on 2 September 2025]

Friday, 5 September 2025, marks the second annual Pepys Day in London.  If you missed last year’s inaugural celebration, you’ll want to grab your quill and parchment (or smartphone) to register immediately. Want To Tell The World?

… about something you’re hosting in the City of London?

One of the main recommendations for the Destination City Programme was to create a consolidated calendar of events to promote and bring together all the activitie happening across the Square Mile.

We are pleased to share the launch of this new interactive calendar, designed to enhance user experience and improve event discoverability across the City.  Users can:

  • Easily see what’s happening on specific days
  • Filter events by themes such as family, music, free, and food & drink
  • Quickly find relevant activities that suit their interests

My sincere appreciation goes to the Culture Team for their effort in launching this new functionality. Organisations are encouraged to list events on the site by using this form

More Change @Bank – Experimental Taxi Access

We are pleased to inform you of a change to the existing traffic restrictions at Bank, which will allow licensed (Black) taxis to travel across Bank Junction. Starting Monday, 28 July, licensed taxis will be allowed to travel eastbound from Poultry to Cornhill, Monday to Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on an experimental basis.

However, Leadenhall Street will be closed westbound from the same date to facilitate highway works associated with the 1 Leadenhall Street Development, near the junction with Bishopsgate. This means that it will not be possible for licensed taxis to enter Cornhill and travel westbound across the junction as intended by the experimental traffic order.

Once these highway works are completed, which is anticipated to be in October 2025, licensed taxis will then be able to enter Cornhill and travel westbound through the junction towards Poultry. No other changes to the existing restrictions at Bank are being made as part of this experiment.

Following the reopening of Leadenhall Street, the experiment at Bank will be fully operational, and a public consultation will be held over a six-month period, beginning in October 2025. A period of monitoring will also start to assess the impacts and benefits of this change.

It is anticipated that a report on the findings of the consultation and the outcomes of the monitoring will be submitted for consideration by the Planning and Transportation Committee in autumn 2026. This will determine whether the changes are made permanent or not.

We appreciate your attention to these changes, and further information regarding public consultation for this experimental traffic order will be circulated nearer the time.
